REVIEW: Wild Thing Paleo Bars & Granola

The lovely people at Wild Thing sent me some of their raw paleo bars and new granola to review. I am always looking for new healthy snack bars and breakfast options so I couldn’t wait to try them! All their products are organic, paleo, gluten free, vegan and refined sugar free so contain no nasties. They’re perfect for a nutritious snack whether it is post workout, mid-morning or for an afternoon pick me up. As the main ingredients are dried fruit, nuts and seeds they are much healthier than the traditional snack bars found in shops! The brand website is www.wildthingpaleo.com

The bars and granola are not considered low fodmap as they are made from dried fruit and many contain cashews but if like me you can tolerate these in small quantities then I definitely recommend trying them.

REVIEW: Wild Thing Paleo Bars & Granola

The raw bars come in four different flavours: cacao & almond, coconut & chia, berries & seeds and nuts & seeds. All the bars have a base of dates and are then flavoured with different, seeds, nuts, dried fruit and natural flavourings. Rather than being completely blended there are pieces of the nuts and seeds dotted throughout the bars which creates an extra texture and results in a much more satisfying snack. I shared the raw bars with a few friends and we all agreed that the cocoa & almond bar was by far the best, chocolate always is! The nuts & seeds bar came in second, followed by the other two bars which we all agreed were much sweeter than the first two. However, if you are looking for a sweet snack to satisfy your sugary cravings then they will be ideal.

REVIEW: Wild Thing Paleo Bars Granola

Wild Thing send me their new mountain berry paleo granola to try which I promptly sprinkled on my breakfast smoothie bowl (pictured below). Unfortunately I didn’t notice until after trying the granola that the box says, in small writing ‘produced in a factory where peanuts, milk, derivatives, sesame seeds, soya, gluten and sulphured fruits are handled’ so it is not certified Coeliac friendly. I have not had a Coeliac reaction so will definitely be finishing the box, however if you also suffer from Coeliac Disease please take care when trying anything that states ‘may contain’ as not everything is safe. The granola is predominantly made up of dried berries, nuts, seeds and coconut chips so there are a wide range of textures in every mouthful. It was a delicious addition to my smoothie bowl as you get the crunch from the granola clusters followed by the chewiness of the dried berries. My favourite bit was definitely the granola clusters as they get their sweetness from coconut sugar which I love the taste of! Overall the perfect early morning energy boost!

  1. Ruth, I too recently took the pleasure of sampling and *reviewing* these bars and found their texture one of the most notable and pleasing things – http://foreverfreefrom.com/wildthingbars/

I will be indulging in the granola next, and I had a long and very positive exchange with Wild Thing about that “Produced in a factory . . . ” statement. I received an excellent response including assurance, with detail, that there really isn’t any cross-contamination risk. They therefore really should not be using a Precautionary Allergen Label, so I presented this challenge and it was well received.
