I have never tried an acai bowl before so I am a bit late jumping on the bandwagon and I never expected them to be this good!
The flavour of the acai is not what I expected at all, it definitely has a berry-like flavour to it but is not as sweet as our well known berries and almost has an essence of cacao to it. I find that the flavour really compliments the sweetness of fresh berries like raspberries and blueberries making acai bowls so delicious. I can really see why they have become so popular recently. Not only do they taste amazing but acai berries are really high in antioxidants!
INGREDIENTS:
1 frozen banana
100g frozen berries (I used a mix of blueberries & raspberries)
150ml unsweetened almond milk
10cm cucumber
A handful of spinach
1 tbsp acai berry power – I used Goodyfull acai powder ( for 10% off any of their amazing superfoods use my discount code: NAUGHTY10)
Optional toppings:
1 tbsp smooth peanut butter
1/2 tbsp hemp seeds
A few fresh berries
METHOD:
- Blend everything together until smooth, if you don’t have a high speed blender then let the frozen fruit defrost for 5-10 minutes before blending
- Top with your toppings of choice, I love my acai bowls served with fresh berries and peanut butter!
