Chocolate and orange has always been one of my favourite flavour combinations so I decided to use it to make this nutritious, refined sugar free and high protein snack recipe. These cacao and orange protein bites are so rich and gooey, perfect for that mid-afternoon pick me up or pre-workout snack. I love using maca powder in my sweet recipes as it provides a sweet malty flavour and an added natural energy boost.

Makes 12 bites

INGREDIENTS:

200g medjool dates, pitted

1 tbsp gluten free oat flour

1 scoop chocolate vegan protein powder

Zest of 1 orange

2 tbsp fresh orange juice

1 tbsp cacao powder

More cacao powder to coat them

METHOD:

  • Using scissors, cut the dates into small pieces and add to a food processor with the other ingredients
  • Process until smooth, you may need to scrape down the sides a few times
  • Leave in the fridge for 20 minutes so the mixture is easier to handle
  • Roll the mixture into balls and roll in the cacao powder
  • Store in the fridge
